Creed Windsor, A Cologne for Royalty

February 24th, 2010 David No comments

windsor.jpg

Lesson 1 the purpose of a cologne is not to cover your bad smell, thats what a good shower soap and deodorant is for.
Lesson 2 Less is More, Do not spray your cologne 2 or 3 or 4 times trust me its fine with 1 spray.
Lesson 3 Cologne is for your neck and wrists do not go spraying other parts of your body.
Lesson 4 Axe is not a cologne company.
Lesson 5 Cologne used to be just for royalty, so understand this is not something petty.

With those lessons learnt you can now apreciate Creed Windsor. Originally created for King Edward VIII in 1936, now Creed is releasing it to the public in a limited edition run of flacons or a 1.7oz leather-wrapped, shatterproof atomizer (pictured above). The scent features top notes of British Gin, Jamaican Lime, and Scottish Highland Pine. At the heart is Duke of Windsor Roses, rounded out by bottom notes of Bahamian Orange, Canadian Cedar, and Australian Eucalyptus.

Available exclusively at select Saks stores and Creed’s New York Store at 794 Madison Avenue.

Sony introduces a worthy waterproof camera… with GPS!

Sony Cyber-shot TX5

If only Jacques-Yves Cousteau had a Sony TX5, or better yet if only Christopher Columbus had a TX5 he would have realized after a few shots at sea that he was headed to the island of Trinidad instead of America. Now forget history for a second but take Boris, Boris loves to go snorkeling. On one of his trips to the bermuda triangle he ventures off the charts and finds a mysterious cave with all kind of booty. He quickly pulls out his Sony Cybershot TX-5 and starts snapping. uses the touch screen controls underwater to delete any confusing photos. and heads back to the boat. He goes down for a second dive but never finds the entrance to the cave. He heads back to ship he plugs in his TX5 into his macbook and instantly he sees exactly where every photo was taken. Instantly he realized he went left and not right after the hill and Boris makes a fortune.

Sleek, stylish, and tough aren’t words that normally describe the same product, but they’re certainly applicable to the Sony Cyber-shot TX5 ($350). The TX5 offers many of the same features found in the company’s flagship TX7 compact — including an Exmor R CMOS sensor, Sweep Panorama mode, HD video recording (720p, instead of the TX7’s 1080i), a touchscreen LCD, 10fps shooting, and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization — but packs them into a rugged body that’s dust proof, waterproof to 10 feet, and shockproof to 5 feet.

San Fran Lets You Find & Pay For Parking Spots From Your iPhone!

February 8th, 2010 David 1 comment

It’s called Streetline and it’s the most amazing innovation that will work great on your iPhone. The concept is simple, the startup Streetline placed detectors in every parking spot in the San Fransisco port area and connected them to each other as well as to the park-o-meters. Then they push all this data to customers through an iPhone app.

All-in-all, it lets you check out where there are available parking spots before you go anywhere, and it will remotely charge or recharge the meter from your iPhone.

Now someone tell Steve Jobs thats what i call Magic!

iPad or iDisappoint

February 5th, 2010 David 1 comment

Apple iPad

While we all anticipated the iPad and finally it came true last week, I can’t stop feeling disappointed. In the past when Apple was asked if they are making a iPhone nano the answer was “we’re not looking to make cheap products we’re looking to make the best products”. With that being said the iPad should have been the Best Tablet out there, above and beyond the competition when in essence its a really big iPhone Lacking a few features. Now i know what your thinking this thing is super cool! and this writer has clearly lost it. You can imagine yourself using one of these magical 10″ iPads in the train or on a plane and of course your going to try to read some books on there, the NY Times app looks like the future of Newspapers especially if you can download the whole paper and take it with you when you can’t have service or want to save battery. Oh and the price can’t be matched Apple hit the price we all wished for and never imagined would be possible $499 and an optional 3G internet service for $15 and $30 BUT lets talk about why its a huge disappointment.

Let’s talk about that price point $499 that price was just to magical, so magical it caused apple to cut out some key features which left this iPad as a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Now I’m not saying i don’t think its cool or “magical” but at the end of the day if i want something Magical I’m going to Disney, and if i want something powerful I’m going to Apple. with that said i will now stop venting and let you know what’s missing from this Magical Device.

  1. No Front Facing Camera:  iChat
  2. No Multi Tasking:  With all the magic in the iPad you could only run 1 app at a time. With such a big screen : how cool if it could splint into 4 iphone screens tiled!
  3. No Widgets: 0 Widgets! there should be some way that i can take iPhone apps and use them like widgets
  4. No USB Ports: There is 1 but its solely to import images!
  5. Network Jack: if they can get one on a Macbook air i want one on here, hardwired internet is so much faster than wireless LAN
  6. Flash: are you kidding there is no flash support still!!!
  7. No Snow Leopard  rather we got a cheesy iPhone OS
  8. No Magsafe connector
  9. 3G we want 4G!
  10. At&t come on it’s time to offer the best service with the best unit!

In truth Apple iPad is not  that much better than a rock see below, haha.

iTablet Rumor

January 21st, 2010 David 2 comments

itablet.jpg
Apple Soon to release ITablet
* Screen size: 9.7 inches
* Chipset: Intel dual core or Samsung ARM11
* OS: App-store-compatible version of OS X
* Release date: Jan 2010
* Price: $500 – $800

1 of the main reasons Apple didn’t release the iTablet is because the goal was NOT to have an OS like the Itouch, but rather the full OS. This was only possible after Snow Leopard arrived with a smaller footprint. You could only imagine that apple will make this very thin, light, powerful, fast and the most important thing is a very good response to touch. In till now Apple is probably the ONLY Touch based device that actually responds! I recall when HTC came out with some “competitors” against the iphone – what a joke! But now rumors seem to slide to not having snow leopard but rather having iPhone OS 4.0 which will support all of the iphone apps in small screens like widgets. You can believe there will be multitasking and iTunes  WILL be updated with Itunes 10 to support eBooks. Maybe it’s time they change the Name of iTunes to iEverything.

Winner Features we would love to see:

  • Intel Quad Core (doubtful)
  • Multi Function Pullout Pen (possible)
  • DVDR Drive (doubtful)
  • Bluetooth (probable)
  • USB inputs (probable)
  • Foldout Stand (doubtful)
  • iChat Camera (probable)
  • 5mp Camera (possible)
  • Built in Speakers(probable)
  • Built in Microphone(probable)
  • Slide Out Remote Control (doubtful)
  • Portable Keyboard Accessory (doubtful)

I believe i can dj…..

Professional Double CD 2 Channel Mixer
I always wanted to be able to DJ, something about it is just so remarkable. whether it being that the whole party’s mood is controlled by your fingers or whether the fact that the skill is unmatched by anyone in the room. One thing is certain when a DJ is working there is just 1 thing in his world and that is his music. He creates a world of blend and balance between beats and magically sends the floor into a rave. But if you ask him how he managed to create such fantastic sounds most probably he will tell you it was due to his gear & skill. With the Technical Pro DMXB1 you get the power needed to create those moods.

Technical Pro’s mixers have a reputation for providing high quality audio and reliability, giving professional DJs the tools they need to expand their musical horizon, with capabilities for mixing, remixing, producing and performing. Aircurve – Acoustic Amplifier for iPhone

January 19th, 2010 David No comments

Aircurve_1
Features

    * Acoustically amplifies your iPhone
    * Custom-engineered waveguide requires no power
    * Allows syncing/charging using Griffin Dock Cable or the charge/sync cable that came with your iPhone
    * Great for nightstand or tabletop
    * Amplifies by about 10 decibels

Loud and Clear

Your iPhone, that is — and without using speakers. AirCurve is a cleverly-designed acoustic amplifier that turns your iPhone into a no-power-drain alarm clock on your nightstand, or a mini sound system that never needs batteries or adapters.

AirCurve looks like a simple, elegantly minimal stand for your iPhone. But inside is a coiled waveguide “horn’ that collects the sound from the built-in speaker of your iPhone, amplifies it (by about 10 decibels), and projects it into the room. AirCurve’s waveguide has been mathematically engineered to deliver amazing amplification — you’ll swear there are full-sized speakers in there. And AirCurve’s see-through translucent polycarbonate body lets you appreciate the graceful curves inside that do all the work.

So will AirCurve charge my iPhone?

By itself, no. For this reason, we’ve added a pass-through slot so you can feed a dock cable through AirCurve. Connect that dock cable to your computer or power adapter and you can sync or charge while you listen.

AirCurve’s pass-through slot will accept Griffin’s Dock Cable (available separately) or the dock cable that came with your iPhone. It may accept others, as well.

Newegg has it for $10 + 2 Shipping

Tech wishes for the next year

January 18th, 2010 David No comments

There are some things we hope for, but that we realistically know aren’t going to happen. In that same spirit of fruitless hopefulness, here’s a list of the tech T would like to see in 2010..
1.Teleportation
Rendering all forms of public transport instantly obsolete, the advent of teleportation would make it possible to be anywhere in the world in a physics-defying instant. Fancy a stroll on a Caribbean beach before bedtime, or the Northern Lights for lunch? No problem.
2. PS4
Sony released the PS3 Slim in 2009, upping sales and receiving plaudits aplenty, so it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see the much-anticipated PS4
any time soon. Still, we can dream. And in the meantime we’ll wait for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii to include Blu-ray drives.
3. Augmented Reality Glasses
AR specs could paint dreamlike worlds over the top of our dreary, grey-scale existence. Your commuter train home? A huge, fire-breathing dragon. Your street? Paved with gold. The chap accosting you with a knife? A mugger; but one who looks like an elf in a conical hat. That’s much better, isn’t it?
4. Mass-Market Bionic Upgrades
Growing weary of your perishable flesh? Feel the need to breathe underwater or scale ten-storey buildings in a single stride? Thanks to morally ambiguous advances in medical science you’ll soon be able to do more to improve your body than a lunchtime shot of botox. We’re hoping to have a new, bionic arm by Christmas 2010…
5. Video Referees
Despite Thierry Henry’s recent brazen hand ball against Ireland, some people are still against video referees in football, claiming it will ruin the flow of the beautiful game.
6. Affordable eBook Readers
With most e-readers looking distinctly overpriced – even the “budget” Foxit E-Reader and COOL-ER eBooks set you back a not-so- cool £190 – it’s hard to foresee the downfall of the written word. We want a sub-£100 e-reader, complete with bendy paper, by year’s end.
7. Driverless Cars
The EU has already begun developing road trains that drag your car in a convoy so that you can relinquish all driving duties. If it means never having to traverse Spaghetti Junction or the Magic Roundabout in Swindon again we’re happy to let go of the wheel right now.
8. Nanotechnology
Whether subsuming the world in a mound of self-replicating grey cyber-goo or, as our own James Wallman promised in a recent column, serving up “tiny robotic bees that sting cancer to death”, nanotech needs to start delivering.
9. StyliSh 3D Glasses
3D is expected to make more headlines in 2010 than Gordon Brown and Katie Price combined, so it’s reasonable to demand a pair of 3D spectacles that don’t make us look like a low-rent Elton John impersonator. Would a pair of 3D Aviators really be too much to ask?
10. Apple iTablet
It could all be a massive lie concocted by hype-hungry Apple fanatics, or it could already be available at the Apple Store by the time you read this. We’re betting by the time you read this, you won’t have to wait too long to find out what Apple’s been beavering away at.

Predicting 2010: iLife, iWork & iTunes

January 17th, 2010 David No comments

With 2010 around the corner, Apple is poised to begin a new year that should yield lots of great advancements in its consumer software arena. Here’s AppleNewDaily’s predictions for what could be in store for the latest versions of iLife, iWork and iTunes. (These predictions are not substantiated by rumors or other “inside evidence” and are purely speculation based lots of experience with these applications and their histories.)

iLife X

Probability: Probable
Based on previous versions, the next iteration of iLife will require Mac OS X 10.6. By requiring Snow Leopard, this does make iLife an Intel-only release. Though some users will be left behind, significant performance gains should be recognized by taking advantage of 64-bit technology included in Snow Leopard.

Within the apps themselves, I believe we’ll continue to see significant updates. Here’s the roundup.

iPhoto

Probability: Possible
The addition of Faces and Places to iPhoto ’09 was just the beginning. The next version of iPhoto will support more accurate facial recognition and integration with Twitter. Those who enjoy the photo slideshow themes that were added to the last version will enjoy a larger selection of new themes that will be added in the new version. I also predict that the next version will bring support for bulk renaming of files (similar to how Aperture can do this upon import) and better performance when dealing with larger libraries. I also predict revised or better photo editing controls with additional effects. (I would love to see Timeline a new feature that allows you to see either Faces or Events In a timeline or timemachine theme… Imagine seeing your childs life in a timeline… Fantastic!)

iMovie

Probability: Possible
I believe the next version of iMovie will boast support for posting videos directly to more Internet services, such as Facebook and Flickr. An expanded set of new themes as well as more advanced title options will be present as well. The user experience of the application will be refined, for those who are still frustrated by the intense switch from iMovie HD to the last two versions.

iDVD

Probability: Probable
iDVD will likely see one of the most significant updates that it has ever seen in quite a while. 2010 will mark the beginning of new ways of enjoying media. From the possibility of the first out-of-the-box Blu-ray drives on the Mac to iTunes Extras & LPs to the elusive Apple Tablet, the presentation of digital content remains a key focus for Apple.

The next version of iDVD will help push this agenda forward, allowing users to create Blu-ray discs or optimize their video content into formats like iTunes Extras. Such a dramatic update would likely warrant changing the name of the application, but that’s also within the realm of possibility. iDVD has definitely been late to the party for the past two years, seeing only small maintenance updates. While many speculate that Apple plans to axe DVD creation altogether (foreseeing the death of the digital disc in favor of digital distribution), I believe Apple has been working on a successor application to take advantage of new forms of distribution (a la Blu-ray or iTunes Extras-styled media).

iWeb

Probability: Possible
iWeb is one of those apps that is difficult to pack full of compelling new features every year. I predict the next version of iWeb will support more themes and a few more widgets, including a widget that provides a live feed of your Twitter stream on your website.

GarageBand

Probability: Possible
GarageBand will likely see an expanded music lesson store with more artist lessons and lessons for drums and bass. I also predict Apple will make it easier to share GarageBand creations beyond iTunes and iWeb. Similar to the other apps, I believe we will see support for exporting to other web services such as Facebook or YouTube.

iWork X

Probability: Possible
I predict the biggest improvement to the iWork suite will be a tighter integration with the iPhone and iPod touch. On the short side, I see iWork.com coming to the iPhone as an app to allow quick browsing of documents. In an ideal world, Apple will eventually build lightweight mobile versions of its iWork apps to allow users to create and edit Pages, Keynote and Numbers files on the go.

I believe we’ll see an update to the “beta” of iWork.com, including a paid plan if Apple deems the project a huge success, or inclusion with MobileMe if Apple feels the product isn’t strong enough to stand on its own footing.

All three applications will see new templates and a refined Inspector palette. It seems very un-Apple like to mandate users bring up a palette for colors, a separate one for fonts, another for media and yet another master Inspector to control everything else. Additionally, I predict the Media Browser will be updated across all apps to support Faces and Places from iPhoto.

I also predict Pages will provide support for (or perhaps work directly with) third-party applications like bibliographic software such as Endnote or Refworks for academic publications.

iTunes

Probability: Probable
iTunes is an interesting application as every version seems to bring about a large number of extra features that many people don’t expect, or at first glance, really need.

I predict the next major version of iTunes, iTunes 10, will bring support for syncing with the mythical iTablet, as well as better syncing support (including over the air syncing of content if on a Wi-Fi network). Furthermore, iTunes 10 should feature better support for managing larger libraries of content and the need to split those libraries across multiple hard drives in a simple but effective manner.
