iretrofone iRetro

Whether you’re concerned with radiation, want a classier look for your iPhone while at the office, or simply miss the shoulder-hugging contours of yesterday’s rotary handsets, the iRetrofone Base ($200) is quite the iPhone accessory. Sculpted and casted one-at-a-time from great-looking resin, the Base is designed to be compatible with all iPhones, and offers an opening for attaching a charging/sync cable, as well as a fully-functional handset. Also great for confusing grandparents and local luddites. [Thanks Uncrate]

Beer Pong Hero

 Beer Pong Hero

Michael Phelps is trying to find his lost youth, left in the depths of an Olympic sized swimming pool…

From the Superficial: Not only did the party at University of South Carolina cost Michael Phelps the warm, striped love of Tony the Tiger, he lost $2,000 playing beer pong. Which is why you never bet money on beer pong. Page Six reports:

“I saw Phelps pull out a roll, a bank-wrapped $2,000. He said, ‘I’ll match the $2,000,’ ” onlooker Michael Whitworth told the State newspaper. “Good ol’ Phelpsie lost it, too.”

Beer the original.

batch 19 Beer the original.

If you’re interested in what beer was like before the 18th Amendment ruined a decade of baseball games and barbecue, get your hands on a pint of Batch 19. Based on a 91-year-old, pre-Prohibition recipe (and named for the year 1919, before Prohibition began), this new brew from Coors delivers a “bold, hoppy flavor that is surprisingly well balanced.” Batch 19 is currently only available on draft in select speakeasy and saloon style bars in Chicago, San Fran, San Jose, Washington, d.C. and Milwaukee. We have wall-mounted TVs, so why not aquariums? We suspect this same question was asked in the early development stages of the Aquavista Panoramic Wall aquarium ($1,000-$1,200). This striking decoration comes with all the gear necessary for a tropical aquarium, including an automatic feeder, dual filtration, heater, air pump, lighting, and a carbon dioxide generator, all of which is controlled via a side-mounted, touchscreen LCD. Available in 5-foot, 20 gallon and 6-foot, 25 gallon models, it’s the new must-have accessory for anyone making an appearance on Cribs. [Thanks Uncrate]

The Lazy Segway

x32 The Lazy Segway

Honda U3-X

After the novelty of the segway wore off – we were left with a bunch of tourists and cops running into everything while wearing funny helmets. Thank goodness that madness has segway-ed into the Honda U3-X (TBA)! This latest and greatest personal mobility device from Honda was recently showcased and demoed in New York. Allowing for front, back, side to side and diagonal movement while sitting – you could say it’s the posh lazy man’s version of a Segway. Seemingly less dangerous and definitely more stylish, we’re excited to see these take to the streets. Now if only someone could get cracking on the Hoverboard!

    How to Twist a Twist

May 14th, 2010 David No comments

    1) the bandage was<strong> wound around the wound.

    2) The farm was used to produce produce.

    3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

    4) We must polish the Polish furniture.
    5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

    6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert..

    7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

    8. A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

    9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

    10) I did not object to the object.

    11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

    12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

    13) They were too close to the door to close it.

    14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

    15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

    16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

    17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

    18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

    19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

    20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let’s face it – English is a crazy language!

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple.

English muffins weren’t invented in England or French Fries in France ..

Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowlyboxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don’t finggrocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teethwhy isn’t the plural of boothbeethOne goose2 geese. So one moose2 meeseOne index2 indices? Doesn’t it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of themwhat do you call it?

If teachers taughtwhy didn’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recitalShip by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run andfeet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by peoplenot computers and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why when the stars are out they are visible but when the lights are out they are invisible.
