This is the ultimate in personal travel. at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Geneva last year, Eurocopter and mercedes-Benz jointly presented the EC145 Helicopter, the first product in the new Mercedes-Benz Style range. At this year’s EBACE on May 17, the Mercedes-Benz Style EC145 helicopter made its world debut. Tailor-made for luxury-class business and private travel, the luxury helicopter has its interior done by Mercedes-Benz designers, so we can imagine the luxury and comfort it’s going to offer.

The interior of the EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style draws inspiration from automaker’s range of high-end luxury vehicles. They have used quality materials, elegant woods, ambient cabin lighting and multi-function boxes. Prof. h.c. Dr. Gorden Wagener, head of design at Mercedes-Benz, said…

The interior design of the EC145 ‘Mercedes-Benz Style’ helicopter represents the classic passion of the Mercedes-Benz design language and fulfils the very highest expectations in terms of elegance, luxury and comfort.

Great for executive transportation, family trips, and leisure and sport trips, the EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style helicopter seats from four to eight passengers. The seats can be adjusted or removed for different seating arrangements or luggage space. There is no word on pricing for now, but we know it will be out of the budget for many of us.

High For This: House of Balloons

Great Song

By Will Hermes
April 5, 2011

“Trust me girl/You’ll wanna be high for this,” purrs a seducer near the beginning of this mysterious mix-tape debut. It’s reasonable advice. A seamless, self-released concept album that set off an internet brushfire — complete with Twitter clues from evident co-conspirator Drake and Weeknd itself — it traces a woozy, debauched journey over nine slow jams that join the current conversation in hallucinatory r&b and indie rock: James Blake, Frank Ocean, jj, Salem, and Beach House. The latter even appear to get sampled here, twice: “Gila” bubbles up in “Loft Music,” as does “Master of None” in “The Party & The After Party.” (B-more, you have much to answer for.) The rest of the tracks are equally haunting: the rhythm of the aching “What You Need” is built around the surprisingly sad sound of what may be a straw sucking up the last drop of a milk shake — or something more potent.

Artist to Watch: The Weeknd

Toronto singer Abel Tesfaye, who seems to be the entire group, has a striking high tenor: at points on “House Of Balloons/Glass Table Girls,” he sounds like Michael Jackson yelping into an intercom in a Propofol haze. It can all be disturbingly raw, even when — especially when — Weeknd overplay the tales of the tragic high lifecheck the plea “Bring the drugs, baby/I can bring my pain,” on the killing, blue-black “Wicked Games.” The wormy hooks and earnest falsettos suggest the possibility of ginormous hits if Weeknd were to clean things up a bit, both lyrically and sonically. But let’s hope that doesn’t happen too soon. (The production team was reportedly led by progressive Toronto hip-hop producers Martin “Doc” Mckinney and Illangelo.)

Volkswagen Aqua hovercraft concept

July 26th, 2011 David No comments

volkswagen aqua hovercraft Awb7n 48 Volkswagen Aqua hovercraft concept

Designed by 21-year-old Yuhan Zhang from China, the Volkswagen Aqua hovercraft concept offers an insight of a futuristic vehicle powered by hydrogen and propelled by an impeller. It has been designed as a solution to address the variety of terrain covering China, from the lakes, rivers and coastal waters to the roads, wetlands and snow. The futuristic vehicle was also shortlisted in the CDN Car Design Awards China, based on the brief titled “Chinese off-road vehicle” by Volkswagen.

The Volkswagen Aqua air cushion vehicle runs on more than one engine. Its hydrogen fuel cell-powered primary motor runs the main fan to inflate the skirt around the vehicle, which help raise the VW Aqua just above the ground. The fans at the rear run on individual electric motors to provide forward thrust and directional control. The Aqua has a minimalist exterior and interior design, and it can seat two inside.

The telescopic steering wheel enhances the driving experience. The Aqua all-terrain vehicle is capable of traveling to any place with an adjustable ground clearance. Aqua perfectly interprets the philosophy of Volkswagen Design with no parting line and laconic appearance. Designer Yuhan is a graduate from Xihua University with a degree in Industrial Design.

Henge Concrete Table Tennis Platforms

henge concrete table Henge Concrete Table Tennis Platforms

Playing table tennis outdoors is preferable to an indoor setting, but typical indoor composite setups don’t stand up so well to the elements of nature. Enter Henge Concrete Table Tennis Platforms ($3,500). Made up of three pieces of sculpture-like reinforced concrete, these sturdy surfaces bounce more or less just like their indoor counterparts, conform to International Table Tennis Federation specifications, and include nifty powder-coated steel nets that should make for some very interesting deflections. gucci loafer factory tour made in italy acl Making of the Gucci Loafer for ACL Made in Italy Tour

Michael over at A Continuous Lean has started a new segment titled “the ACL Made in Italy Tour” and the first piece covers the Gucci loafer, one of the most iconic shoes known to man. MW goes to the outskirts of Florence to the factory where it all takes place, giving us a look into the loafer-making process. The inside is opposite of what you’d expect and Michael puts it best — “It is the perfect marriage of technology and traditional craft with a seasoned group of shoemakers, sewers and cutters all under one roof.” The tools are old school but the space is so well-organized and the process, well, it’s as efficient as can be for a shoe so timeless.

Head over to ACL to read the full story.
