Take iOS Gaming To The Next Level With iCade Mobile

We caught our first glimpse of the iCade mobile at this year’s CES, and nowit’s finally here.

Like its big brother, the iCade, iCade Mobile aims to enhance your iOS Gaming sessions by providing you with a four-way directional pad, four front-facing buttons, and four shoulder buttons to play your games with. that sounds much better than obscuring your view with on-screen controls, doesn’t it?

After popping your iPhone or iPod touch into the cradle, the iCade Mobile uses Bluetooth to pair to your iDevice. After that, you’re good to go.

More features of the iCade Mobile include:

  • Fun and fast mobile gaming for your iPhone or iPod Touch
  • Adds physical buttons and d-pad to make your gaming experience better
  • Rotating cradle allows for landscape and portrait viewing
  • Connects using wireless Bluetooth technology (set up once and you’re good to go!)
  • Works with over 100 games and apps (search “iCade” in the app store)
  • Ergonomic design lets you play for hours in comfort
  • True control with eight action buttons and two-axis directional pad
  • Compatibility: iPod Touch (3rd & 4th Gen), iPhone 3/3G/3GS/4/4S
  • iPod Touch Insert included
  • Batteries: 2 x AA (included)

Not every game in the App Store supports the iCade, but there are over 100 games that do and we’ve picked out the best ones.

The iCade Mobile will set you back $69.99, plus the cost of the games you intend to play with it.

Would you spend this much on an iPhone gaming accessory? Perhaps it’s time for Apple to make that iController already …

Take Your iPad To New Heights With The tablift

tablift Take Your iPad To New Heights With The tablift

Lazy iPad users rejoice! the tablift Kickstarter project promises to be an easy-to-operate, hands-free solution for your tablet.

The idea for the stand was conceived when creator C. Scott Blevins realized there was no good solution for reading or watching video on the iPad while in the bed or on the couch.

The tablift is deigned to hold the iPad in a stable and optimal viewing position regardless of how uneven the surface it is resting on. The solution uses four, independently adjustable legs for stability. It also has a low center of gravity to protect from tipping over.

Some of the viewing angles possible with the tablift include sitting, reclining, and lying down. The solution, compatible with all three generations of the iPad, also works as a desktop stand with many configurations.

Here’s a quick introduction video about the project. Click here if you can’t see the video.

For a $60 pledge, you can receive one tablift. With 10 days left to go, the project has raised almost $39,000 of its $78,000 goal. If funding is successful, estimated delivery is in October.

I have mixed feelings about the tablift. While I think it looks somewhat useful, it seems like the iPad must be out of a case to operate. And while the folded configuration of the stand is pretty compact, it looks really large unfolded.

Powerbreather: a Darth Vader Snorkel (video) | GadgetReview

the snorkel to a large degree hasn’t change much since the products invention.  Sure, there are now versions that include an apparatus to help clear the tube of water, but to a large degree the function and the form has remained the same.  And hence why we can’t over look the Powerbreather Snorkel.

at first blush, it resembles a contraption that would be found in a Star Wars movie, or some forward thinking scifi flick.  But it’s actually a very simple design that allows swimmers to inhale and exhale without the fear of water entering their lungs at anytime, at least according to the company.  This is accomplished using a set of of what is presumably a proprietary placed valve system.  Needless to say, this is contrary to traditional snorkels.  That being said, the Powerbreather adheres to the head using an elastic design and ensures that even when you dip below the water’s surface it stays on the head and doesn’t shift around.

So why would you get one of these?  Apparently, rotating the neck during swimming can cause injury and also inhibits the swimmers ability to reach their max potential.  The Powerbreather is said to resolve this quandary.  It’s also ideal for kids or people who are learning how to swim.

World’s first manned flight with an electric multicopter

January 10th, 2012 David No comments

Strap a yoga ball to 16 horizontally rotating propellers and apparently you can claim a world’s first.   German aircraft company E-Volo slapped together something they’re calling a Multicopter and recently they achieved the first manned flight that lasted about 90 seconds.

If the prototype looks familiar, that’s probably because you’ve seen a variety of quadricopter in the last few years, the most notable being Parrot’s A.R. Drone.  However, up until this point all them have been too small to lift a person off the ground.

The Multicopter is controlled using a wireless remote and apparently will float, much in the same fashion as Parrot’s quadricopter, without any human input, though it’s not clear if E-Volo has incorporated a variety of sensors unlike the A.R. Drone.  However, there are a set of onboard computers that calculate the rotational speed of the propellers and thus control altitude and the direction of travel.

This version of the multicopter is powered purely on battery juice, but the company says that they might develop a gas and electric hybrid version which would increase flight times from 10-30 minutes to perhaps an hour.

We’re really not sure what we would do with a multicopter.  In fact, it reminds us of the Segway – cool tech but not really practical in any application.  Then again, the military could surely use somethings like this to perform recon, though it might be a bit too large and manned flight is slowly being eliminated from their strategy.

SpyNet Laser Trip Wire

Spynet Laser Wire Trip SpyNet Laser Trip Wire

Keeping the dog out of the garbage can or your cat from going through your underwear generally calls for a lock and key scenario.  But that’s hardly a geeky answer and won’t condition Rex to think twice before he digs through bacon grease and chicken bones.

Enter the SpyNet Laser Trip Wire.  Yup, the same tech we grew up watching in movies – Catherine Zeta Jones comes to mind – is now ready for your kitchen, living room, heck even your cubicle.

The system includes a transmitter that beams a laser to a receiver unit, as well as 2 mirror units to expand its reach around corners and through door ways.  If someone, or something crosses its path an audible alert will be sounded, notifying you that there is an intruder in your midst.  You’ll need 6 AAA batteries to power this setup, but they should last up to 5-10 hours with continuous use, at least that’s our best guess based on our laser experience.

ThinkGeek sells it for $34.99.

adidas adiVERSE Virtual Shoe Wall

A typical shoe store probably has just a few hundred pairs of shoes on display, which seriously limits consumer choices.  the adiVERSE shoe wall displays up to 4000 shoes, allowing customers to scroll, zoom and rotate as if they’re holding the real thing.

Okay, so nothing beats holding the physical object.  But if anything is gonna come close in terms of a compelling “online experience” it has to be adidas’ adiVERSE shoe wall.  In addition to being able to look at the shoes from any angle, you can narrow your choice by selecting gender and then modify the shoes according to your color choice.   The Intel Core i7 powered adiVERSE wall can also facilitate the skeptic, by letting consumers read objective reviews and tweets from around the web, good or bad, at least according to adidas.

Selecting new shoes is as easy as using an iPad.  Just place your finger on the screen, swipe and the shoes rotate.  Once you’ve found a shoe of your liking you can proceed to checkout by entering your initials.  Following that an adidas store employee will approach you with a tablet where upon you can complete your purchase or send the desired shoes to the cash desk.

The adiVERSE shoe wall is currently being used in adidas’ flagship store in London, England on Oxford Street.
